Mistakes: Blessings in Disguise

Mistakes give us experiences and experiences lessen our mistakes”

Many a times, we are afraid to try something that we haven’t done before. No matter how hard we practice oratory, we always hesitate to take part in oratory competition. Why? This is because we are afraid that we may make mistakes at the crucial moment. And to us, mistake means becoming the laughing-stock of
the town.

Before we get into the depth of this reputation destroyer ‘mistake’, let us see what mistake means. As defined by the Oxford Concise Dictionary, mistake is “an incorrect idea or opinion; a thing incorrectly done or thought”. In simple words, one of the infinite ways in which a thing or occurrence doesn’t go as planned is a mistake.

What we must not forget is that when we make mistakes, we gain more experience.  Mistake is just one of the hundred ways in which a thing or plan won’t go as planned.

Learning from one's mistakes means getting the most out of it. Even Edison had failed 99 times while trying to invent the electric bulb. On his 100th attempt, he finally invented it.Even Dr Seuss’s had been rejected by more than 20 publishers. Even Abraham Lincoln was defeated in 8 elections. Even J.K.Rowling’s, the first and only millionaire author, first book was rejected by several publishers.  So, if you have never made any mistake, you have never tried anything new.
