Often, our
T.V. screens get filled with violent and disturbing images during news
telecasts. It is nothing unusual to us. Disturbances in all north-eastern
states and of course, the ever curfew in Kashmir add to this problem. In
addition, we also have racial/religion based violence or conflicts in some
parts of the country. Fifteen of the twenty-eight states face these problems.
Discrimination
is a major issue in India. It first makes the person p
rejudice those belonging to another race/religion and at the end makes the person extremist. Due to racial discrimination, racial violence occurs and inevitably, racist groups are born. These racist group will create disturbances (sometimes by bombing) in places of worship, press conferences etc of the religion/race they hate.
rejudice those belonging to another race/religion and at the end makes the person extremist. Due to racial discrimination, racial violence occurs and inevitably, racist groups are born. These racist group will create disturbances (sometimes by bombing) in places of worship, press conferences etc of the religion/race they hate.
Discrimination,
if not stopped, will create innumerable racists and extremists. Nepotism will
occur in offices after the employers will start favouring followers of their
religion. Hindus now won’t go to the parties and weddings organized by Muslim
families and vice versa.
Discrimination affects our lives in a significant manner. It even leads to terrorism. For instance, the political situation in the rural areas in India is a racist one. Here, if
you don’t belong to the voter’s caste, you won’t get the vote. Dalits will vote
for Dalits, Thakurs will vote for Thakurs and Yadavs will vote for Yadavs.
These illiterate happy-go-lucky villagers won’t think even once before casting
their votes. Thus an inept and dishonest leader is elected, who along with his
cronies will live like kings, being busy in being corrupt. Consequently, others
suffer. To protest against this, the villagers raise their voice. But little
does this leader pays heed to them. Ultimately, they join the Naxalites. So,
they now start bombing and firing at innocent people to get the leader’s
attention, not realising that what they are doing is wrong.
If the former is allowed to happen, it is obvious that the cycle will continue. For instance, the recent Patna
bomb blast, masterminded by the Indian Mujahedeen, took the lives of 8 people.
Now, let’s say that one of those eight people was a Hindu. That person’s family
members will now have a fire of vengeance burning inside them. This fire will
make them so blind that now they will not be able to differentiate between an
Indian Mujahedeen and a Muslim. They will now regard all the Muslims as
terrorists. After having this belief, they will now come under the influence of
a Hindutva-based extremist group and ultimately, they will become extremists.
Now, they will bomb a mosque, killing many Muslims. Consequently, like in the
case of the Patna blast’s victim’s family, the victims’ family members will
start prejudicing Hindus and have a belief that all Hindus are
Hindutavabadis(followers of Hindutva). This cycle will go on.
Discrimination is thus a great curse to society. It ultimately affects us, the common people. If we stop prejudicing others, we will contribute to the society in stopping discrimination. Prejudicing others only makes us narrow-minded.
